Day One: Gore
Visit the Hokonui Moonshiners Museum, wander at your leisure through the colourful past of the Moonshine and learn more about early prohibition in Gore.

Step inside the Eastern Southland Art Gallery where you will find one of the country’s most famous permanent exhibitions – The John Money Collection. Plus view works from New Zealand artists Hone Tuwhare and Ralf Hotere.

After lunch, visit the Croydon Aircraft Company for your tour of Southland’s very special historic restoration aircraft hanger. Also visit the new Historic Aircraft Museum. Capture the thrill of a flight in a Tiger Moth or other vintage aircraft. Overnight in Gore

Day Two: Gore – Winton – Queenstown
Travel to Winton via SH 96

Discover Winton’s heritage on the Winton Heritage Trail . Travel to Kingston and experience a ride on New Zealand’s own real vintage steam train the Kingston Flyer. Let yourself be carried back to a time of Gold, Earth, Steam and Dreams!Overnight on Northern Southland or continue through to Queenstown.

Day Two: Gore – Invercargill – Riverton
Visit the Southland Museum & Art Gallery or get a taste for Southland’s Farming Heritage at Shearing South Interpretative Centre, devoted to the culture, stories, passion and language of New Zealand shearing.

Explore Invercargill Historic Buildings and take in the sights of the city with Lynette Jack Scenic Sights.

Travel to the coastal town or Riverton via the Southern Scenic Route and visit the Wallace Early Settlers’ Museum, Palmerston Street Drive around to the Riverton Rocks, the name of the peninsula, which juts out to sea beyond the harbour mouth. It’s 9km length has many beautiful beaches for walking, surfing, swimming or picnicking.

Day Three: Riverton – Fiordland via the Southern Scenic Route
Suggested places to visit along the way: Colac Bay, Cosy Nook, McCracken’s Rest, Tuatapere – World Heritage Area display at the Bushman’s Museum and the Clifden Suspension Bridge
