Day One: 13 km, 5 - 7 hours
Follow the coast before heading inland at Flat Creek climbing steadily up on to the Hump Ridge. Bush gives way to sub alpine tussock grasses and finally the Okaka Hut (890m). Stay at Okaka Hut

Day Two: 19 km, 7 - 9 hours

Traverse along the Hump Ridge then descend steeply through ancient marine terraces of beech and podocarp forest to the coastal track. An old logging tramway leads across the massive Percy Burn Viaduct, the highest remaining wooden structure of its kind in the world, to Port Craig Village.


Day Three: 11 km, 3 - 5 hours
Explore this pioneering village with a chance to see or even swim with the rare Hector’s dolphin by the old wharf. Walk coastal forest tracks and beach sections back to Track Burn where you can catch the Track Transport to Tuatapere. Or from Track Burn walk the South Coast track to Bluecliffs Beach and the Rarakau Lodge car park. Overnight in Riverton


Day Four: Riverton
Relax in the quaint seaside town of Riverton, one of New Zealand’s earliest Maori settlements. There are plenty of charming art and craft shops, cafes and places to visit, making Riverton a perfect stop off on your tour of the south.


Day Five: Stewart Island Coast to Coast Walk – 14kms, 3 – 4 hours
Drive to Invercargill City Airport and fly with Stewart Island Flights Island to the start of the Coast to Coast half day freedom walk. Land on beach at Mason’s Bay, the start of the walk, and start your 4-hour tramp over flat tussock and manuka terrain. On arrival at Freshwater Landing a water taxi will transport you back to Golden Bay and Oban township.

Spend the afternoon exploring the island on a Stewart Island Experience scooter or mountain bike. Meet some of the locals and enjoy an evening meal at the South Seas Hotel on the beachfront.


Day Six: Stewart Island – Ulva Island, 3hours
Take a guided walking tour of the enchanting predator free bird sanctuary, Ulva Island. Enjoy the morning birdsong of bell birds, tuis, saddlebacks and the calls of the kaka and the native parakeet kakariki, all through the podocarp forest home to the ancient rimu, totara and miro trees.
