  • Paddle across Paterson Inlet, along the winding Rakeahua River. Enjoy stunning views from Mt Rakeahua, watch wildlife, explore hidden bays and listen to stories of the past on the Rakeahua Odyssey.

Ruggedy Range™ Wilderness Experience - Kiwi Journey

  • Journey in the footsteps of kiwi - occasional daytime sightings will leave you in awe!
  • Enjoy contrasting scenery. Water taxi across the heart of Stewart Island, along Freshwater River, trek the flat 14 kms through wetland, scrub and dunes to Mason Bay, experiencing a night in a backcountry hut.
  • Search for this incredible bird, learn about its unique features, listen to its distinctive call whilst marvelling at southern stars.
  • Other birds may be seen including fernbird and robin.
  • Informative commentary on natural and cultural history, personalised for small groups - maximum 6 persons only.
